View Poll Results: Which is closest to your view about Augusta National, the Masters, and women?
I'm upset about it. The pro golfers should boycott the tournament. I'm not buying any product that sponsors the Masters. 1 2.22%
They should allow women, but the players should still play there. 7 15.56%
It doesn't bother me that Augusta National does not allow women. 37 82.22%

Default Augusta National and Women

Surprised that this hasn't been discussed ... For those of you who don't know, Augusta National is the course that runs the Masters golf tournament. I don't know whether it's "Sports" or a "Political Issue," so I'll make a survey out of it!

Funny, I don't see any men getting up in arms about not being able to play at women's clubs. Someone has too much time on their hands.

That's pretty much the way I am. It's a private club. I don't much care who can be a member.

And I have no desire to be allowed into a women only club either. They can knock themselves out.

1. There is no rule against female club members at Augusta National.
2. At about 300 members, it seems as if it discriminates against plenty of men for apparently other reasons. Many of these men really want to be members.
3. Can anyone try to name at least one woman who would minimally qualify (and wish to join), based on the supposed membership of the following:
Jack Welch, former chairman and CEO of General Electric;
Sanford Weill, chairman and chief executive of Citigroup;
Warren Buffet, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway;
John Reed, former head of Citibank;
Sam Nunn, a former U.S. senator from Georgia;
Ray Robinson of AT&T;
Ken Chenault of American Express;
Lloyd Ward of Maytag Corporation;
Frank Broyles, former Arkansas football coach and current athletics director;
Billy Payne, the man who ran the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Women are allowed to play Augusta National, just none that have been asked to join yet. And probably the biggest name to not be a member is Bill Gates (who desperately wants to join)

I'll offer up Vivian Banta - the #2 person at Prudential and who makes more money than some of the men on your list. Then again, it has been stated that Vivian is just Art Ryan (chairman and CEO) in drag. :P

Personally, I see no reason why a woman needs a membership there. Give me a lifetime membership to a spa any day.

Private club. No public funds involved that I know of. I don't see why the boys can't put a "no girls allowed" sign on their treehouse if they want to.

A public golf course would be an entirely different issue.

Certainly doesn't seem like an issue worth boycotting the Masters over.

This discussion is moot anyways. There's no red tees at Augusta, so even if you let 'em in, they wouldn't be able to play.

Though I I think that it is a private club and they can invite whomever they want. In response to DTNF I will offer a name - Carla Fiorina CEO of HP.

That's not fair. The holes should be moved closer for the women, in that case.
