Default Most People in the Superdome are "Bad" People, According to an Aussie "Hero"

Australian media Sunday Herald Sun reported a "hero" who saved a bunch of Aussie women from being raped in the Superdome, and he was quoted as saying that most people there are "bad" people:

Quote:
Mr Hopes, 32, said: "That was the worst place in the universe. Ninety-eight per cent of the people around the world are good. In that place, 98 per cent of the people were bad.

The 98% that are good typically have the basic necessities of life. Those 98% that were bad at the Superdome (my guess is that most were not) did not.

Are you saying that 98% of the people in the world have the basic necessities of life?

Did wholesale looting, raping, and pillaging break out in tsunami affected regions?

CNN was showing the convention center (or skydome? I forget) empty today because most had been bussed out. However what remained were chairs set in circles where groups of people had fortified themselves to protect themselves from others - right inside where everyone was.

I'm not sure what you're trying to protect here Moe. Fact of the matter is NO is a very rough city. It's the only place I've ever feared a mugging in my entire life. And most people that weren't one step from homelessness have already left, greatly increasing the percentage of nutcases and animals.

I wouldn't say that 98% of the people holed in the Supedome were bad. The criminal element, which already had a strong presence there, stood out more because the people with the means to get out(that wanted to) did. Giving the criminal element an even stronger presence.

They dominated the news because they were preying on the helpless at will. The police could do nothing to stop them and they apparently knew it.

98% of the people there probably didn't have the means to get out. Being poor, doesn't make you a bad person. Arming yourself and preying on the sick & suffereing certainly does.

Comparing flood in NO to a tsunami doesnt really make sense - there was just nothing after the tsunami came through, and if you move beyond that mile or two inland, you still had supplies...no one was stranded without food and water.

NO is rough. I dont disagree with that. IT is nowhere near 98%. Throw hunger and desperation on top of anyone and they become much more aggressive.

I did read an article somewhere about the international tourists in the SuperDome being told to huddle together with the women on the inside. As they were virtually the only white folks there, they were targeted but also got special treatment by the National Guard (which caused even more resentment).

Not sure what this had do with the argument. I don't think most people were bad, there is a criminal element and druggies who may be missing their supplies etc. And opportunistic males. Look at what happened at the Puerto Day Parade a few years ago, and they were all well fed.

Well, if that's the case, I suppose the attempted rapes can be excused.

I agree - when I run out of food the first thing I do is commit a sex crime.
