Default Dinner is served!

Just curious about this. For purposes of this question I'm not interested in the fanciness level, just whether it's prepared by someone outside the household. So "Burger Barn" = "Olive Garden" = "L'Idiot".

I picked 3 as my best guess, but I think it's relevant that we have no children at home. When we had our children it was more like 1.

BTW, I love eating at "I'diot," but they only let me have the chicken!

Once in awhile I bring home a pizza. We go out to dinner with friends maybe once every 4 to 6 weeks. But it rounds to less than once a week.

If I get to missing other folks cooking, I just go out to lunch. Most of the restaurants and fast food around here are much closer to my workplace than my home.

I think you're missing the whole "Oh man, I really don't feel like making spaghetti or frozen pizza again tonight. Looks like we'll need to go out again" aspect of things.
But that's sweetly naive of you :P

Right. The "new cruelty".

I'm a big advocate of the joys of crock-pot cooking. Toss a bunch of stuff in it in the morning, turn it on low, go to work, tempting smells greet you as you walk in the door at night. Cuts way down on the number of spaghetti nights.

I think it rounds out to twice a week. The wife and I usually try to get out on a date away from the kids once a week, and there will usually be a night neither of us feel like cooking.

(12+ times if you include lunches, 6 dinner, 6 lunch)

We eat out when we wait to 8 to eat. We eat at home when we wait until 10.

Just to make sure I read these instructions (unlike certain recipes) correctly: if we go out because I ruined another meal, that doesn't count as a "purchase rather than cook at home"?

It took a good 15 seconds or so for my brain to actually understand that.
