Default Do we still need the right to bear arms?

It looks like the original purpose of the right to bear arms has passed and it is becoming dangerous to have millions of heavily armed people in America. We are not going to be invaded by the British anymore...lets put away the guns. Do we really need them? Aren't they more dangerous than they are useful?

You'll pry that Amendment from my cold, dead Constitution.

I am Pro-Choice on this issue. Don't like guns? Then don't own one.

If the Constitution has a right to partial birth abortion hidden in there, it certainly has the right to own whatever damn gun I wish.

But for some reason, we can't own whatever drugs we want. it seems to lack consistency.

You seem to have displayed both an obvious bias against gun ownership and a serious misunderstanding of why the amendment exists in the first place. You might remember that the amendment was enacted until something like 1790, some years after the British had left.

The "right of the people to keep and bear Arms" is "necessary to the security of a free State" and was enacted more to protect the people from their own government's potential excesses than to protect against foreign powers. It shouldn't be too hard to find people who think that our current government is to be feared and that the amendment is needed now more than ever.

Oh, and I voted to keep the amendment in your poll even though you did conspire to make anyone who did look like a bad stereotype.

I wasn't aware there was an amendment devoted to the issue of drug ownership.

That wasn 't the point you were making. Go reread your post.
