Default Marriage

I'm reading this book

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...books&n=507846

and think it would be a good one to discuss as "we" go. Anyone else want to join in? I'm only on page 30 and would be willing to hold up if a few others want to join in.

Mods, please move this thread to the book club forum. Thanks!

PS Mulan - Why should we read it? It's not like we have any idea what we're talking about the rest of the time. Why fix what ain't broke?

I'm bored let's start talking about the book.

I think it was a stupid book. The premises were based on assumptions that couldn't stand up with leg braces. Bush is dumb.

Good idea, but I've already read a book.

Its a few weeks before the exams, and you want us to start reading a book that isn't on the syllabus?

1. I thought about specifying non-exam-takers but thought I'd get flack for that too.

and

2. I said I'd hold up if I got some takers.

The book is very good about the history of marriage. Very well researched and has gotten good reviews. So far it is very very interesting.

Marriage. Marriage is what brings us together -- today. Marriage--that blessed arrangement. That dream -- within a dream.

Giving and receiving?

Mule-Anne, it sounds like a fascinating book. Thank you for mentioning it -- though I'm unlikely to be able to read it any time soon.
