Default All Things Autumn

Just thought I'd start a frivolous leafy thread about my very own favorite season. Post any thoughts, poems, songs, pictures, whatever, that pay tribute in some way to this splendid time of the year. Here are the lyrics to a tune that gets me all misty eyed. And remember, you haven't really raked your leaves until you've jumped into the pile!

Well the summertime has gone
And the leaves are gently turnin'
And my love I wanna take you
To the place heart-a-yearnin'
Will you go, lassie go

And we'll all go together
In the wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go

And I will build my love a tower
At the foot of yonder mountain
And visit by the hour
From a lonely wooden tower
Will you go, lassie go

And we'll all go together
In the wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Come on

At the foot of yonder mountain
I will visit by the hour
With the lily of the valley
Go, will you go, lassie go

And we'll all go together
In the wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will you go, lassie go
Will you go
Will you go, will you go
Will you go, lassie go

A lot of the leaves have turned here - it makes for a nice car ride. It also makes for a good football atmosphere!

Leaves are falling all around,
It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged
For such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go,
The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain,
And with it pain,
And it's headed my way
. Ah, sometimes I grow so tired,
But I know I've got one thing I got to do,
Ramble On,
And now's the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.
Got no time to for spreadin' roots,
The time has come to be gone.
And tho' our health we drank a thousand times,
It's time to Ramble On.

Ramble On,
And now's the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.
I ain't tellin' no lie.
Mine's a tale that can't be told,
My freedom I hold dear;
How years ago in days of old
When magic filled the air,
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor
I met a girl so fair,
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up
And slipped away with her.
Her, her....yea.
Ain't nothing I can do, no.
Ramble On,
And now's the time, the time is now
To sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world,
I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.
Gonna ramble on, sing my song
Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world
I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby
I can't find my bluebird!
I'd listen to my bluebird sing but I can't find my blue bird
A-keep-a ramblin' baby...

One of the few nice things about my commute is that the train passes through some very nice scenery (e.g. just north of the Sharon station). The timing is right now so that I pass through these areas when the foliage is at its best color AND the sun is at the right place in the sky (low) to really show the trees off spectacularly. Still not worth a two-hour commute each way, but it helps a little.

just did our pumpkin & apple picking Monday. (ok only picked 2 apples) & lunch at an outdoor October fest.

Ah! on Thanksgiving day, when from East and from West,
From North and from South, come the pilgrim and guest,
When the gray-haired New Englander sees round his board
The old broken links of affection restored,
When the care-wearied man seeks his mother once more,
And the worn matron smiles where the girl smiled before.
What moistens the lip and what brightens the eye?
What calls back the past, like the rich Pumpkin pie?”

Reflections in the water like shadows in my mind
Speak to me of passing days and nights and passing time
The falling leaves are whispering, winter's on its way
I close my eyes remembering the warmth of yesterday

It seems a shame that old September's swallowed by the wind
And more than that, I'm oh so sad to see the summer end
And though the changing colors are a lovely thing to see
If it were mine to make the change, I think I'd let it be.

(But I don't remember hearing anybody asking me...)

grey skies gaze down on speckled mountainsides
as trees trade in their green summer hats
for red and yellow blankets to wrap around their feet

our fingers laced, scuffling feet chasing scattering leaves
collar pulled up against the chill breeze
the dancing sun breaks through and brightens her smile
