I am entry-level and want to work in Southern California (L.A.).
It seems like most entry-level training programs are in the companies' home offices, and the home offices are mostly in Illinois, Connecticut, NJ, and other places I don't want to be. Any comments? Advice? |

Consulting is bigger than Life in Southern CA. Try Buck, Towers, Mercer, Milliman, Wyatt, or Aon. Other companies are Pacificare, Pacific Life, HealthNet, Farmers, and SwissRe. There are also accounting firms here.
There is work for the entry level actuary here and very little actuarial science in the universities. Most of the credentialed actuaries here are from the midwest or east coast. Plenty of opportunity if you are motivated and persistant. |
