That is sad... I want to play games because they are fun. Maybe it's because I'm not an elite "gamer" or whatever. When I get an achievement I am happy I will admit, but I still think it's the game makers fault. If they want to take away the achievement, reduce the gamers level, that's fine, it is their game, their choice. But banning people is crazy unless it's creating an unfair playing field against others.

I think the achievement system has done a great job of getting some people (who really care about their score) to play crappy games that no one would have even considered playing before. It also gets people to spend more time in a game they would previously move on from. Even if they are idling or exploiting something it can't be worse than them not playing the game.

I don't really see how integrity comes into it

Snoo, I went through a gamefly craze of playing crappy/easy games just for achievement completion and upping my gamerscore. But in general I only buy games from a few series (halo, gears, left 4 dead, assassins creed), and because I love them so much, I play them until completion

It's an absolutely brilliant marketing gimmick.

Although, last weekend I did get an achievement for the Onyx Guard thingy. It required more time dedicated to logistics than actual playing time though. 5 people play horde on hardcore all with the onyx guard. Put the mutators on, insta-gib (jib?), infinite ammo, strong re-load. Play a boss wave (level 10). Bam 100 gamer points!! Actual playing time = maybe 2 minutes.

Where does that fall on the scale between "straight and narrow path" to "achievement whore"??

The MW3 midnight release at my local Best Buy was disappointing. Pre-orders were confirmed by looking through printouts!

Previous releases have also included refreshments and a variety of free swag. There was a generic poster and about a dozen t-shirts for the crowd of ~100 last night. I guess they didn't need to provide any extra incentive to get people to show up.

You know, I am more guilty of this than I'm letting on. Now that I think about it, it's probably one of the reasons why I don't like the ps3. Their trophy's are crap. If I have the option of purchasing a game on xbox or ps3, there's no way I consider the ps3. It is kinda fun to work towards the achievements and up my gamerscore. Probably one of the reasons why I sunk so much time into the Maw (shoot self with gun, the gameplay is so SLOW!!!)

RP & I put many many hours into splosion man co-op because um, well, my timing of splosions was not spot on. The game was fun, but I had moments of frustration because I kept messing up. But we got it (and all the cake!). Had it not been for the achievements, I probably would have given up. I may have even done some dancing around the basement after we got that one. I am so lame!!
