What a neat way to finish the 5K! Two victories to celebrate!

Just an update - haven't ballooned out, but haven't been eating entirely great, either. Snacking's gotten the best of me.

I'm still able to run pretty well - ran a couple laps around the park again. Did it in 14:02 and 14:20, with a 3 minute break between the two. This week, though, my gf's being vegetarian, and I told her I'd support her, so last night's dinner was tofu stir-fry, a spinach & cheese omelette & broccoli.

Vegetarian week has come and gone, and now I come across likely the biggest challenge: Vegas. I leave Wednesday afternoon for Vegas and will be there until Monday morning. I'm already looking forward to the breakfast buffets, but I'll also be bringing up my running shoes with me. Who knows - maybe I'll get a bunch of running in! I'm definitely gonna get a bunch of walking and moving around in, though.

So, this is to keep tabs on myself before I go up there, just to remind myself that I did work hard to get to where I am, and I don't want to throw it in reversal.

To recap where I've been:

215 at the beginning of 2008, size 36 pants (barely), large/XL shirt.

Now: 173 lbs (this morning), size 34, but bought a size 32 shorts yesterday, and it fits well (not tight at all), med/large shirt and bought a small jacket yesterday. Will probably be getting a size 32 jeans sometime 'cause I need to keep myself in check - need to make sure I can still fit them when I get back. You know, subtle reminders that I can't give up?

Was not able to last for very long when running, but am now able to run for about 3.5 miles continuously. My soccer coaching ends tonight, so I'll be able to get back out on the soccer field after I get back from Vegas. And I'm committed this time. I like running, and I'd never thought I'd say it before.

Finally, my abs are beginning to show some type of definition. When I press down, it doesn't feel like just one ab anymore. All in all, I'm pleased ... but I definitely don't want to be done yet.

Thank you all for the support, the comments, the suggestions and the attention over the years. This year especially has been good. I do feel a bit different and definitely happier. It's made me think in terms of "What can I do?" rather than "I can't".

So, thanks, all.

I think you misunderstand my love for bacon, my dear.

Lol, I know she didn't say it, but I hope never.

Realistically, there are a few things I want to do while at this lower weight. My short term goal is to get into running a bit more - maybe another 5K here, a 10K there. A short/medium term goal is to get on a local soccer team and score a goal. At least once, y'know? I've forgotten what it's felt like, and after watching it for a long time, I want to feel that rush of excitement of playing on the field and having it all culminate by scoring a goal.

Medium/long-term, I'd like to try the Honolulu Marathon, just to say I finished it. The absolute long-term "I'm there" goal would probably be running a sub-4 hour Honolulu Marathon. That's way out in the distance for me and horribly unrealistic where I'm at right now, but I know I can get better, especially after seeing what I can do in 9 months. Looking back, things are different. And I'm glad.

Oh, and one goal is that I want to have "that" body - at least once, just to know what it looks like and feels like on me. Losing weight is the first step. Toning and working out is the next. Maybe I'll save that for 2009.
