I'm 5'9 ... or thereabouts. 5'8" on a short day, I suppose.

But I'm back from my trip - just a few hours since landing back home and I dreaded jumping on the scale. Pretty sure the breakfast buffets did me in. But amazingly, I came back and I'm 172.

Ah, damn you, holidays - 178 on Sunday evening. After quite a bit of food on Sunday night.

But it's absolutely a great feeling that I've been able to lose that weight and keep it off for 2008! I definitely want to keep this up and likely lose even more weight. The object of 2009 is to slim & tone, as well as amping up the activity level. My Mount Everest for 2009 would be to participate in the Honolulu Marathon in early December '09 and finish in under 6 hours. (Thankfully, this marathon is known as the "People's Marathon" - you can take as long as you like to finish.) So, that'll be my ultimate goal. I'll need to participate in more than just a 5k this year in order to get there, so my first race will be March 7, 2009. It'll be a 10k right off the edge of Waikiki. I believe we'll be running past Diamond Head for most of the race. So far, I've only run ~6 miles as my max distance, so that'll be something I'll work on throughout 2009 - running for longer distances and hanging tough.

So ... here goes 2009!

Man. Up to 179. And right now, I'm fighting off a cold, so not much in the way of exercise.

There's zero shame in enjoying yourself and some food. If the weight tilts up and you want it back down, just do exactly what you did before. Especially now that you know you can do it.

And fought it off! (mostly)

1/26: 175

Eating much better ('cept for Saturday) - I'm reacquainting myself with Japanese noodle dishes like somen and soba, with tofu and assorted other veggies to garnish. Got a bit of a run in yesterday. Ran about 4 miles yesterday and tried to do a bunch of sit-ups. Only got about 75 in.

Trying to keep on the right track after being derailed by November and December.

2/16 (evening, after 7 mile run): 170.5

I was pretty dehydrated and hadn't eaten a whole lot that day, so I imagine that was as low as it gets. I wasn't able to weigh myself in the morning, and I've been eating not so hot since Monday night, but I am planning to go on a long walk with the dog tonight. Just trying to keep active.

That 7-mile run was the first time I'd ever run 1 hour continuously. Unfortunately, at the end, I was pretty out of breath, so I don't know how much longer I could've gone. At the 5.5 mile mark, I started getting light-headed and had to re-focus my vision - it's like all of a sudden, things got brighter. I pushed through, and after a few minutes, everything was ok. My legs aren't so bad, though - I would've kept going, if not for being out of breath. But 7 miles in 1 hour - that's not bad for me.

I'm planning on entering a 10k race on March 8th and running this past week for the hour straight was good practice to see if I could get it done. My goal is to run it in under 1 hour, and just try going as low as I possibly can. I think there's a bit of a hill at some point in the race, so I'm not trying to really destroy that 1-hour expectation.
