10/4/2011: 193.0
10/6/2011: 191.0

It's micro-managing, but it's still a small victory.

These are odd results. I'm guessing it's mostly water weight, because my eating this past weekend was not great at all.

Seriously. :/

The blip up was b/c of a trip to Chicago for the SOA Annual Meeting, where I ate a TON of food. Was a great trip (and great to meet other AOers), but now it's back to the grind. The weigh-in on 24th came in the morning, after a 2-mile run, where I felt like I had a lot of energy (surprisingly so for a person who had eaten a lot of food without much exercise). So, here goes for continued results.

Are you weighing yourself on the same scale and the same time of day each time? Those fluctuations do not appear within the reasonable range.

The most recent 194 was not at the normal time. Normally, I'll weigh myself in the morning, before work. That's what a lot of those high-180's are coming at. But same scale and approximately same place on the floor, too.

It's interesting to see a weight loss of 5 lbs in one night, though. I should just stay asleep!

:/ And the recurring knee injury is currently acting up.

No weight update (until tomorrow, probably), but after a bout of extremely sharp and sudden elbow pain and some Internet-based research, I believe I do have gout, and that it's progressed to a fairly serious, nearly-chronic stage. "Tophi", I believe it's called. I seriously wonder if it's the cause of my knee problems. It's almost certainly the cause of my elbow pain.

Gout can definitely cause the problems you are explaining. My friend has family history of gout. His dad had his legs amputated (his own choice, not necessary) and he's started feeling some issues. He has some pills he takes and says it helps it out a lot.

I was given some when I first was diagnosed with "potentially gout".

Two doctors have told me that the only way to truly "diagnose" gout is to jam a needle into the area, take a sample and examine for uric acid crystals. As I'm usually dying in pain when they tell me this, I opt for the more traditional, less sadistic method of measuring generic uric acid levels in the body and if elevated, take prescription-strength ibuprofen to lower uric acid levels. That's what the medicine I was given was.

That's step #1. Step #2 is making sure I don't balloon up.
