Well, meaningless when talking about asians taking over the field in the US. Also, you would have to reduce it by those studying in the US and planning on moving back to their native country.

Is there any way to estimate that? Not that I can think of.

Not sure what the point of this statistics is.

According to the world census by US Census Bureau:
http://www.census.gov/ipc/prod/wp02/tabA-07a.xls

In 2002, there are 6.228 billion people in the world. 3.518 billion are from Asia, ie. 56% of the world are Asians.

So go figure.

Since Happy Salvador is not interested in coming to his own defense, I'll do some pro bono work on his behalf.

On page 5 of this thread, RANGERS684 claimed that in a recent list of 82 newly credentialed ASA's, 61 had Asian-sounding names. Then, former president Bill Clinton hypothesized that those numbers could have been skewed like that if the SOA had offered its latest APC in Hong Kong. (It was just a theory of his.) At that point, Happy Salvador joined the fray with his statistics on exam passing candidates -- which paint a far less dramatic picture of the Asian/non-Asian breakdown of the actuarial landscape than RANGERS684's numbers did.

It was just Happy Salvador's way of saying that Bill Clinton's thesis was probably correct. Translation: Don't sound that alarm just yet -- we're not being taken over by the Asians.

Although, if I know Happy Salvador as well as I think I do, he probably picked those numbers out of his you-know-what. In which case, disregard everything I just said.

Exactly. (But the numbers are real)

I would just like to add that I did find a cached page that listed 2 APCs in asia just prior to the SOA release. I think you got the rest correct.

After all this, I am convinced that it is the Norwegians that are taking over the field (apologies to any norwegians that might be present).
