Make sure you note that the "C" in "CSM" does not stand for "CAS (Casualty Actuary Society)", but for "Casualty", so this is not a CAS publication. I used CSM for exam 3. It is a comprehensive set of outlines, formulas and old exam questions with solutions. The only way to really learn how to solve the problems was to read the solutions and figure it out from there. The ASM manual, however, is made up of 74 sections which actually attempt to teach the material with explanations, discussion of what is important to understand vs. what is less important and sample problems. It doesn't have as many questions as CSM, but many of the CSM questions are of the ridiculously easy 1-point variety from 80s. I also used Mahler's notes, but only for credibility. His tabular method for solving Bayesian estimation problems is incredibly easy to understand. I've never used HTP.

The HTP manual is not very good. It didn't cover all of the material, and the material that it did cover was not very in-depth. Mr Klein took a faculty position with the U of Iowa, so I don't beleive that there will be any improvements made to his series of study manuals.
For this past sitting, I was able to use the past exam pack from BPP (http://www.bpptraining.com/). Based on this experience I predict that the entire course would be comprehensive and effective. Furthermore, the "course notes are a complete and structured replacement for the recommended textbooks" See this link http://www.actuary.ca/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=7763 for further discussion |

I bought CSM, but never used it. I looked at the first few problems and didn't like them. It was made up entirely of old exams, most of them are irrelevant now (in terms of structure and complexity level). HTP for C4 is not as good as the ones for C3 and C2, IMO.
