Hi,
I want to learn Excel to strengthen my qualifications as I apply to entry level positions. I have basic knowledge of Excel but I want to become extremely proficient in it as I've heard it is a necessity in the field. What books/methods would you recommend that are best suited to specifically helping an actuary master the skills needed for his field? I would like a book that gives practical problems and exercises for the reader to do on his own as opposed to just saying "this is how you put in formula's"(etc). The same goes for learning Microsoft Access. Thanks a lot for your time. |

I'll try to clearify what bama is saying. Excel isn't something you really learn from a book. You just need to use it, preferably for something that you're interested in. Do you play any sports/games, or even enjoy sports/games do stats for those make your own file and have at it.
Then when you can't figure out how to do something search this site to see if someone has already asked your question. If not make a new post and we should be able to chime in and point you in the right direction. Once you have a file with a bunch of data. Start messing around with each of excel's functions. See if you can't find a use for the function, and recreate the result with other functions.
