Default Mid Year Bonus - "Mid life crisis" purchase help

Long story short, I got a mid-year bonus this year for some work I brought in to my firm the last two years. It is enough that I feel like I can treat myself to something very nice even after saving a chunk.

About me...I am 38 and single but dating around. I like travel and I like cars and I like fine wine and classic art. I live in the south.

My first instinct is a new Mercedes. I also thought about buying a vacation home in the mountains(using this as down payment) or possibly some land on the coast. I would also be up for a top shelf vacation (invite one of my girlfriends) or even a case of extremely rare wine (I prefer Burgundy.)

My financial advisor will flip, but life is short.

So what should I get?

Depends on what you have. I think status cars are tacky, but I wouldn't argue with a nice new BMW. If you like wine, I would take one of your honeys to France for a wine buying trip. That is what I would do.

Or build a wine cellar if you don't have one. That can cost $100k easy for a big basement cellar.

How about contributing to your favorite charity?

Or you could take one of your honeys to France for a wine buying trip, and then take a short detour to Germany for a car buying trip.

Don't spend money on women who aren't in it for the long term.

Just saying..

Thanks for the advice. To be honest, the bigger challenge these days is finding women who aren't ready for a long term. Clocks are ticking.

But I don't mind spending money on a date to experience thigs with me. Flights, hotel dinner etc. A $500 bottle of Burgundy is no fun solo.

Well a little fun maybe.

But I don't send my dates on shopping trips or anything. Most of the girls I date have plenty of money anyway

hopefully, I don't get banned for this one - it's a semi-serious suggestion for a self-proclaimed mid-life crisis guy:

I don't think a car or vacation home is frivolous enough for somebody who put "mid life crisis" in the thread title. Agree that you should consider putting some portion to a charity of your choice, that will make you feel good too, but splurge on yourself as well.

I wish you'd included an option that read: "I'm obstaining b/c I think you're a tool"

"One of my girlfriends?"..lol...wouldn't it be more appropriate to refer to them as your harem?

Wine and classic art.....pffttt...personally I think your going to have far more fun in a decent car with no police around.

Get some racing lessons, then go out and buy one of the following cars

Subaru Impreza Turbo or Lotus Elise or Caterham (can you get those in america?)

(they'll be cheap second hand due to fuel costs)...not sure about lotus..they get excellent write ups but the subarus have unbelievable handling..they're totally impossible to crash and they can go round corners at pretty ridiculous speeds.

In terms of property..it would be more sensible to get downpayment on holiday home as you could let it out to cover mortgage payments as opposed to buying a piece of land next to beach.
