That almost didn't stop Andruw Jones last year. Aeyyyyyy!

I agree with what others have already said... it'll come down to how the playoffs shake out. Marlins WC = Cabrera, Phils WC = Howard, Cards in with <4 game lead = Pujols, All else = Beltran.

That WS/TeamWS thing should be discarded. Why should a player be rewarded for having cruddy teammates?

MVP = most valuable player to his team.

It's not Offensive Player of the Year, or Most Outstanding Player, it's the Most Valuable Player. Take Beltran off the Mets...do they win the East? Probably. Take Howard off the Phils....

You could easily replace "Howard"/"Phils" with Cabrera/Fish or Pujuls/Cards and have the exact same argument.

Take Beltran off the Mets and put him on the Phillies. Put Howard on satellite radio. Are the Phillies better than they are now? (Yes, and, if he replaces the other Howard, so is satellite radio and the future prospects of Our Great Nation.)

The Most Valuable Player is the Player who creates the Most Value, which is another way of saying "he's the best dang player". Pooholes, Beltran, and Cabrera have all been demonstrably more valuable ("better dang") players then Howard.

do they still lose the East? Definitely. I think I am missing your argument.

w/o Howard, i'd say Phils have at least 10 less wins.

w/o Cabrera Florida loses more games in the standings than that.

Howard has Utley, Berkman must be more valuable - whose his second best hitter?
