Default Was this a recruiter?

I believe I have heard stories of recruiters operating like this, so I wanted to get opinions...

One of our admins took a call on our main line.

The man on the other end asked to be connected to our actuarial department.
She said we didn't really have an actuarial department, how could she help him.
He: can you name all your actuaries for me, then?
She: no, I can't do that for you, what would you like help with
He: I need to speak to an actuary
She: Can you tell me what you need help with so I can better direct you call?
He: It says in my notes that one of your actuaries does Med Mal, can I talk to them?
She: What's their name? [most of us do med mal]
He: I don't have the name, it's a guy and he does med mal and he's in charge there [a guy is not in charge here]
She: can I have your name and number and someone can call you back?
He: no

conversation ends
he calls back
much of the same, eventually gives a name and a company (something generic like "National Underwriting Co.") but still refuses to give a number, keeps insisting to be forwarded and then actually gets threatening and asking for the supervisor, the admin's name, threatens to never do business with us again (we don't so business with "National Underwriting Co.)

My take on this was that it was a recruiter trying to get names/numbers of actuaries and the usual procedure did not work and they got very frustrated...

My first impression was that it sounded like good ol' Al Lightner, but the threatening sounds more like the work of Golden Dan Gold.

What about this possibility? With the current med mal problems, such as in W Virginia, maybe it was a business reporter trying to get a good quote from an actuary.

Sounds like a recruiter to me. A recruiter pulled a similar stunt at a former employer....they pretended to be from the CAS and needed to get a list of all the actuaries for some reason.

Welcome back Flora!

Yeah, definitely tell the admin thanks. May not have been a recruiter, but it was nobody you wanted to talk with.

Reports looking for quotes are happy to leave their names and the publication. They always leave a number to call them back, and are very truly surprised when anyone does.
