Tommy seems to be preparing himself for the chance that OSU, USC, and Auburn all go undefeated and he has to relive 2004 again...

Not even the part where he plays up football players as model students?

I could live with a +1 system. There are hardly ever more than 3 teams with a legitimate claim to the national title. Half the time there are only 2 teams.
There is a lot of football left to be played. I wouldn't start worrying about getting shut out of a NC game until roughly the time that I stuff my face with Turkey and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce.

I gotta say, I would LOVE to see that happen. I can't even begin to understand how the NCAA thinks that anyone would lose money on that. Interest in the non-championship BCS bowls would be SO much higher in that scenario than they are now.

Well, as it pertains to a playoff anyway.

Why not just go 8?

It keeps the reward for finishing 1 and 2 in place. It keeps the number of teams small providing incentive to keep the current system of playing tough regular season schedules (and, coincidently, it lines up with the old BCS footnote that a top 6 team gets an automatic BCS bid). Last, and definately least (in my mind) - it ensures that promoting it will be a cinch since the semis will both have a #1 and #2 team in it, and the NC almost assuredly would too. |
