Is this is good deal or did I pay too much?

I'm afraid you paid too much. For comparison, here's a new laptop available at CompUSA for $500 (see slickdeals.net):

CompUSA has the Toshiba Satellite M115-S3094 Notebook for $650 - $150MIR = $500.

Specs:
Intel 1.6Ghz Core Duo
512MB
DVD+/-RW Drive
14" TruBrite Screen Technology
Wireless B/G/A
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

It really depends on the value of the data that you can glean from the hard drive.

If you're buying a laptop made out of vegetables, I've got another one for you - hint: it's the one on the right:

Awful...I'm amazed at the lack of laptop knowledge people have nowadays. I guess that's why I can usually buy a laptop and sell it on eBay a year later for a profit

well you overpaid. I still use the same one I had 4 yrs ago. Its an AMD XP 2100+ with 512mb ram and a 40 gig hd. that chip is the equivalent of a P4 so while its nothing special now, it def served its purpose and is still a pretty good PC for what I use it for
