I bought a used laptop for $540.
IBM thinkpad R51 1.4 celery M, 40g HD, 1.25GB RAM. Is this is good deal or did I pay too much? what laptop do you guys use? |

I'm afraid you paid too much. For comparison, here's a new laptop available at CompUSA for $500 (see slickdeals.net):

It really depends on the value of the data that you can glean from the hard drive.

well you overpaid. I still use the same one I had 4 yrs ago. Its an AMD XP 2100+ with 512mb ram and a 40 gig hd. that chip is the equivalent of a P4 so while its nothing special now, it def served its purpose and is still a pretty good PC for what I use it for
