Default NYC to Hartford Area

Unforunately, I will be driving from the westside of Manhattan to Hartford late (leaving between 10 and 11:30pm) on Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Here are my two current contenders for which way to go.

West Side Highway to I-95 to Hutchinson River Pkwy to Merritt to 91N

West Side Highway to I-95 to I-91N

Which way would be better? Am I missing an option?

Thanks

There is no good way to go ... traffic is gonna suck. The Merritt has the potential to be slightly better, but I'd play it by ear and watch traffic reports for accidents.

Isn't there a ferry from Long Island?

You can always go across town cut through the bronx via 3rd ave bridge take the Cross Bronx to 95N. Not sure that it would be better.

Unfortunately?!? What's so bad about visiting New England's Rising Star?

As for the route, flip a coin. I prefer the Merritt, but that's just me.

Oh, and wave at me as I go by, since I'm driving from Boston to Philly the same day.

Ditto, I preferred taking the Merrit to 95 when I would make the trek b/t Norwalk, CT and NJ. I believe I also made the trip late night to avoid as much traffic as possible and it helped a lot. But as said before, it's up to personal preference at this point.

I don't like any of the Bronx/Westchester "Parkways" after dark. But maybe that's just me.

The main reason to avoid 95 is "trucks", and the night before Thanksgiving there shouldn't be very many.

Consider the Saw Mill Pkwy or Rt 7 or others to get up to I-84. 95 and Merritt are miserable.

If you go up to 84, you would use 684 off of the Hutch, but it is all hit and miss as to which might be the best.

At that hour I wouldn't think any of the routes would be particularly bad. Merritt would be the more direct hitting 91 further north.

I find 684 I can usually go the fastest, but 84 tends to have construction.

Also Hutch/Merritt cost $1.00 less than I95
