I’m offering various STAM learning resources, some free and some not. See below.

Who am I?
I’m Jim Daniel, ASA, PhD. For 21 years—from 1989 to my retirement in 2010—I was Director of the actuarial program at the University of Texas at Austin, where I had been elected to its small honorary Academy of Distinguished Teachers. I taught intensive face-to-face exam-prep seminars from 1994 until 2020, most recently for LTAM and STAM; these were attended by many hundreds over the years, mainly from the U.S. or Canada, but (rarely) someone flew in from England, France, Germany, Japan, China, or Hong Kong.

Free weekly 35-minute Zoom help & review sessions
Every Thursday at 5 pm California time (Pacific Time), I host a free Zoom session reviewing a topic requested (or chosen by me if no requests have been made). Free videos
Back in 2010, as an experiment for the start-up company AbacusLI, I recorded a low-tech set of “Fundamentals” or “Overview” or “Roadmap” videos for what was then SoA/CAS Exam C/4. These weren’t videos of my exam-prep seminar; rather, they were a new kind of learning resource that presented just the main big ideas with some elementary (not exam-like) demonstration problems and solutions to illustrate the main ideas. These videos were intended as a sort of “preview” course learners could view before digging into all the details in a study manual, full video course, textbook, or face-to-face exam-prep seminar. When AbacusLI closed up shop at the end of 2017, the videos were released to me to use however I please. While the videos seem rather inelegant all these years later, almost all of them remain applicable to SoA Exam STAM. So I’ve deleted the irrelevant videos and am providing the rest at no cost to anyone interested; the material new to STAM such as rate-making, loss-reserving, and individual health insurance are not previewed in these videos.
