You can add me to the list of candidates who walked out of the exam super confident, just to end up with a 5…

I’m really curious what the pass rate will be. Are they not releasing that anymore?

I thought I passed as well, with ease. I received a 5. So is there no way to appeal? I don’t remember any specifics about questions (or what I put for them for that matter), so not sure how one might appeal their exam other than to say “Grade it again!”

I have a feeling this has to do with everyone just doing well on this sitting. Everyone had a year and had the advantage of taking the exams on a computer.
Normally, you may have done well enough to secure a 6,7 or even an 8 but because there were people that did better, these scores were lowered down to 5 after curving.

I felt so uneasy after coming out of the exam because I thought I did well but it made me think how easy it must have been for everyone.
With these exams, it’s not about how well you did in general, it’s about how well you did relative to others.

The pass mark should not have been adjusted up this sitting as everyone had a year to study and only one shot at the exam so one can deduct that more people would pass. Also those who were not close to passing did not sit, they received a free pass to get a refund with COVID-19 and all the candidates I know that were not ready took it. Now we need to resit and they added new material which by the way as of yesterday you could not download the new text from the CAS website. The CAS screwed up royally and needs to own up! I hope CAS leadership read these posts, go back, and look at things again. We as candidates and future members DESERVE this!

That is certainly possible, and if so, still incredibly frustrating.  It was a tough year for everyone.  If the pass rate was higher this go around because candidates overall just did better, then so be it.

I’m dying to know what the pass ratio is. The last two sittings were over 50%. It should again be over 50%, considering we had more time to study and the CBT testing environment was more efficient than pencil and paper. If the CAS can set a pass ratio of 28.6% for Exam 5 F2019 because candidates did worse than an average year, they most certainly should raise the pass ratio for a sitting where candidates performed better than average.

I don’t know.  But the email about the test banks said they would send out the pass percentages.

I would guess it will be around the same time as the comprehensive grade reports; mid-February.

                        thanks guy Act and Odds.

P.S. I really hope they can improve this forum abit more like RFD or Reddit. At least allow us to like and quote others’ comments. Current version is not efficient.

The only thing the new AO has going for me is that it’s not blocked by my company.  For some reason GoActuary is.

Thats complete BS if true. CAS has said the pass mark for a minimally qualified candidate is determined prior to the exam even being taken. Just cause a bunch of people did well doesn’t mean they should then adjust pass mark.

The pass ratios SHOULD be higher for 2020 given the cancellations, people generally having more time to study etc.

You are not alone. I finished all exam questions and felt that would at least receive a 6, but ended up with 5.  (One of my friend taking Exam 5 got unexpected fail as well, as he was aiming a score 6-7.)   I think ppl are receiving 1 grade level below expectation in general.  Very curious on the passing rate and the passing row score for this sitting.
