Which material(s) are ya’ll using for this?
I’m going to just start reading the source and I just might use only the source for this. Maybe get CC.
Anyone here used CC to study for this and recommend it?
December 16, 2020 at 4:06 pm #1434A good chunk of the source material is a single textbook (BKM); I’ve read part of it and think it’s pretty good in and of itself. I’m not sure about the learnability of the other 14 source papers. I’ve gotten several recommendations from colleagues to use the Rising Fellow Cookbook and Crystal Clear’s Manual for Exam 9. Rising Fellow also now has Problem Packs, which could be useful for practice since we won’t get the 2020 Exam 9 Examiners Report.
December 16, 2020 at 4:21 pm #1435I have read all the source, done all the RF cookbook and practice pack, all TIA problems, and all CC problems (and read through the manual).
They all have some value. Ultimately this test will be asking a lot of questions that are more bloomsy and are challenging.
December 16, 2020 at 4:36 pm #1436I’m interested in the CF/RF joint Exam 9 materials. The joint seminar was really helpful for 7, hopefully it’ll be helpful for 9 as well. I got the RF cookbook & CC manual for the Spring 2020 sitting (I decided not to sit for Fall 2020) but if the cost to upgrade to CF/RF is reasonable I might do that when it comes out in January.
December 16, 2020 at 8:06 pm #1443For source materials, I need to buy the book and sk. I assume the 2021 sk will be the same as 2020 since there doesn’t appear to be any changes to the syllabus (2021 vs 2020)? CAS website still links to 2020 sk
December 18, 2020 at 3:03 am #1468Booked my appointment – May 6, in the morning. There were only 3 days in the window with open slots at all the Pearson VUE centers in my state… Hope there are still slots available by the time people log in and see their ATT email tomorrow morning. I can’t believe they sent them out after US business hours were over for all time zones.
December 27, 2020 at 9:21 pm #1594How is the TIA seminar for exam 9?
December 28, 2020 at 3:00 am #1605TIA for 9 is more or less standard and comprehensive in its coverage. There aren’t any exceptional options out there that I’m personally aware of for 9 other than Goldfarb back in the day. I used TIA and think I’m probably on the fence. Anything I missed on the exam was more attributable to lack of sharpness and time management than anything else. I would recommend it.
December 28, 2020 at 4:19 pm #1611TIA for 9 is okay. I would suggest CC and RF. Or RF/CF combo (even though I haven’t seen CF). If you know TIA cold you may be able to pass but others will have more comprehensive coverage, unless you are able to get into the nitty gritty details of all the papers.
December 31, 2020 at 8:48 pm #1660Is exam 9 relatively easier than 7? Any thoughts which one should I write in may 2021?
December 31, 2020 at 11:02 pm #1661Take my advice with a grain of salt since I’m awaiting results for both. I’ve taken Exam 7 three times now and Exam 9 twice. The material for 9 is more enjoyable since it can be applied to your real life but 7 is still very intriguing. In my opinion, the material for 9 is more straightforward to understand. The reserving in 7 (65%-65% of the weight) isn’t too bad but there are a few technical papers that are super time consuming and have a relatively low point value. The ERM section is also grossly disproportionate in terms of its point value relative to the amount of source material (very time consuming for 15-20%). In the end, I guess it doesn’t matter which you take first since you’ll have to take both. Good luck with your choice.
January 4, 2021 at 8:13 pm #1732Is there a combo of RF cookbook & CC manual available or we’ll need to purchase them separately? CC = crystal clear?
January 4, 2021 at 8:47 pm #1734Two different people and products, need to be purchased separately.
January 5, 2021 at 8:24 pm #1788While awaiting sentencing… I thought I’d probably re-start early… Hello cruel world.
January 5, 2021 at 9:00 pm #1789Yes. I have the same feeling. I will probably start in next week or so.
January 5, 2021 at 9:06 pm #1790The worst part is we can’t talk about the questions in the CBT exam(s) now… there were a couple questions I was stucked on, and if I couldn’t get an understanding of it, I’d be boned again if they decide to recycle some of the questions.
