I haven’t heard anything, but that wouldn’t surprise me. Even if they finished grading them this week. It would probably take them two more weeks to discuss/look at statistics before they release them.
What did you hear?
Considering that they were grading tests since December 9th according to some CAS LinkedIn posts I saw, I would hope the grading window has progressed significantly already.
You have tests in May the results come back mid-June. Everyone goes on vacation for the summer. You push off the exams a month, people have to grade them in the summer.
My guess is that if you keep pushing it off, you never get back to the original preferred timeline…
For people who fail this will actually benefit them as repeat test takers will have a considerable advantage.
Most people I talked to experienced some technical difficulties. I think all the ones I talked to would say those technical difficulties were by far minor compared to how much time they saved by doing the work in the spreadsheet environment. If you lose ten minutes but gain 30 minutes…
Right. That’s my point why having statistics showing the number of people who passed is important. If CAS removes that layer of transparency they are basically saying. We know the test was flawed and harder but we don’t care.
My sentiment is that in 2018 the people running the exam committee were more agreeable and willing to lower the MQC. I get the sense that current leadership for exams would be more inclined to what they did last year.
To me it is really unacceptable to have lower than a 40% pass rate on these tests.
If I had to guess, the CAS won’t make an adjustment for one person. I know I ran into some difficulties during my exam and I have heard others had some difficulties too. I couldn’t copy and paste for about 5-10 minutes. I am sure there are other complaints that will be similar.
The only real adjustments I think the CAS could do is lower the the total MQC required to pass. I have no idea how likely this is. My bet is that they won’t do it, unless there is a clear trend in an exam.
I think the CAS won’t release pass marks because they don’t want people complaining. Whether they release how many people took the exam and passed is a different question.
It is very likely you will get the following type of response to your grievance: “We have looked into your issue and decided not to revise anything.” Something generic.
TIA for 9 is okay. I would suggest CC and RF. Or RF/CF combo (even though I haven’t seen CF). If you know TIA cold you may be able to pass but others will have more comprehensive coverage, unless you are able to get into the nitty gritty details of all the papers.
I have read all the source, done all the RF cookbook and practice pack, all TIA problems, and all CC problems (and read through the manual).
They all have some value. Ultimately this test will be asking a lot of questions that are more bloomsy and are challenging.
That’s funny. I passed exam 7 (I passed 8 before that) over 2.5 years ago and have studied for the exam 9 since then. My first attempt I got a 5. I am probably borderline now as well. This is a very hard exam because the questions are very tricky. The material is probably the easiest and the questions are the hardest. If you are naturally a good test taker then this will be your type of exam as they tend to ask questions based on your SAT skills and not your actual knowledge.
I was a little unclear what the CAS planned to release. Do they plan on releasing the # candidates who took the exam and the # who passed?
Also, quite frankly exam 9 was an extremely challenging test. I really do hope they grade it like they normally would. And don’t artificially raise the pass mark because that would just be unfair to everyone quite frankly.
The CAS could have done a remote option. They had the time and bandwidth to do it. They didn’t do it because they didn’t want to do it. In their book >80% of candidates being able to take the test is a win. It is hard to argue with that.
I would give people the benefit of the doubt. Do you know anyone who would cheat? I don’t know anyone who would do it. I know about 10-15 people who have taken exam 9 at the end of the window. I would be shocked if anyone cheated. Sure, this is a small sample size, but I don’t think people would risk it. Especially, since these people have gotten to their last exam. Maybe I am being naïve.
