do we get CPD for the FAC eLearning? Feels like we certainly should. Anyone have any insight and/or thoughts around whether it would count as professionalism credit?
I’m in CT, so not sure if I’ll be flying or driving.
thanks for posting this… I never got a reply.
What do you all think about the exercises? Not as bad as I expected, tbh. I find the case studies fairly thought provoking and relevant to what they’re trying to accomplish.
Trying to finish up today. Let’s see how the 2nd deliverable goes.
I have the same thing as Actuary0.
It will be so nice to be rid of the tedium and aggravation that comes with the SOA’s eLearning setup.
did you register for virtual? I see nothing like that in my learning. Where did you get those options?
How do we “enroll in a virtual session in the Learning Management System now”?
Anyone know where to do this? I’m registered in-person, and have already been assigned an in-person session.
does anyone know when we get access to the e-learning? Expected sometime today, just wasn’t sure if anyone has gotten access yet and whether there’s an email or if it just shows up in elearning.
I registered for the in-person. Hope it actually gets held.
I recommend to keep taking LTAM.
That exam took me multiple attempts as well. When I finally passed it, it was because my understanding of the material was much deeper than just knowing the formulas (I could basically “speak” all the formulas in words, because I understood what they were all doing).
That kind of understanding comes naturally over time. If you change course, you may lose that benefit.
Good luck and keep with it!
Hoping that Dice took the Canadian version, because I definitely didn’t answer any of those questions.
To Actuarially Decent: I generally hate the TIA flashcards, so I didn’t use them very much.
My general remarks are that I felt the exam was pretty fair. Of course there were a couple questions/spots where I feel like the question writer too heavily weighted a small piece of exam material, but that happens all the time, so it is what it is. But it seemed like most questions did a decent job of testing knowledge, which is good.
I imagine we’re well past the window to talk specifics, so I’ll be happy to discuss how others felt on specific parts of the exam.
I’ve gotten through a full second pass of the material.
Things seemed to stick much better. The Capital & Finance section dragged more than I remember.
I once again hate hate hate hate hate TIA’s flashcards. Like haaaaate. I don’t know, could be me. I am a bad studier. But these things really feel like they do me more harm than good. Frustrate me to the point of wanting to quit. They’re just SO generic.
Anyway, I do like that we have 4 practice exams to work with. That should cover a lot of material. I’m also going through each study note and trying to “write” exam questions, and then answer them. It’s taking a lot of time, but it feels like that is helping me remember things.
Just finished the STAT section of my 2nd pass.
The good news is that the material feels like it’s sticking MUCH better than the first pass.
The bad news is that there is still a ton of material left, and I’m not sure how much of this will remain forefront in my brain enough after going through the rest of the syllabus. I guess we’ll see.
that’s really good to hear. I haven’t done any flashcards yet, but agree that I didn’t like them at all for LPM (or LAM for that matter, so maybe I just don’t like flashcards??).
It’s such a shame that the old AO died.
Given the popularity, wouldn’t it make more sense to at least copy that old format?
The ‘Exams’ section here is just brutal. No segregation by exam, and it ends up being a perpetual “who’s doing FA now?” thread. #sad
Just finished my first pass through the TIA material last night.
My plan (at the moment… subject to change) is to now make a full second pass. It’s a struggle with so much material, I barely remember the early STAT stuff. Hoping I can get through this pass relatively quickly, so everything stays a bit more refreshed in my mind.
I agree, would LOVE an active forum here!
I’m using TIA. Wish there was more birds-eye, high-level intro to some of this stuff (loved the way they set up the CARVM material). Plan to finish the GAAP section today. Feeling pretty ‘meh’ about it all, but not sure how much of that should be expected on a first pass through this material.
