Are you tearing your hair out yet?
I cant imagine what it must be like for the people who took their sitting on 11/19 (beginning of the window) and will have waited 3 months, especially those who end up failing. Talk about brutal. Glad I chose the last day of the window.
Maybe since its the first time they’re grading free response on the computer, there’s something they hadn’t contemplated? Maybe they’re trying to figure out how to address all the grievances they received? Or maybe they’re just trying to compress the time-frame so more people fail next time. Who knows?
Makes perfect sense. I never thought of that. Instead, I assumed MAS was before any of the closures.
I’m waiting to see if I failed before registering. What you described is what I experienced for the Fall sitting. It took me a few hours to find a location close by. The best you can do is keep looking. Due to COVID, capacity is limited so there’s no guarantees you’ll find a center in your area.
Thanks. I sure hope so too.
Hardest thing i ever attempted and I can’t say it felt that it was successful. Afterwards, I was beyond fried. Slept for a long time. Did the others out of pocket so wasn’t an issue.
I have 7-9 and actually, I took them all this sitting. My original plan was to only do 7 before the lockdown but clearly that changed things. Not sure i can answer your questions because in the past I’ve taken one and when I failed then I skipped the next sitting (for personal reasons) so I havent had a consecutive back to back sitting in a while.
I also sat for 6 twice (passed), 7 three times, 8 once and 9 twice. I think 9 is the easiest material but strangely enough I agree with you that I thought it was the hardest this time around.
Thanks for your wishes, Tigger. To Actuarialed: i think the “gatekeeper” exam evolves over time. For a number of years, it was the old 7 (what 6 is today), then I think with the explosion of interest in the field and the incentives for passi g that exam, it became harder to prevent people from passing. MAS I became the new gatekeeper for a bit although that seems to have subsided somewhat. Now it appears that 8 has become the new upper level gatekeeper based on the stats. I think they have to keep mixing things up so it’s not obvious. That’s why they occasionally add IQs and other curveballs.
I lost a child last summer. Is that enough adversity for you, Loki?
I recently took 7 and recall trying to use the LINEST function in the TBE environment. For some reason, it only produces one of the parameters (either a or b) and not both. I would imagine you wouldn’t be dinged but I can’t say for sure given there’s no guidance and will be no further examiner’s reports.
So far, I’ve spoken to at least 15 people who lost time (between 15 and 20 mins) for one reason or the other (mostly technical issues). I wonder how they’ll adjust for that. The irony is that, it may be easier to pass with an adjustment (if you lost time) than if you had no adjustment and left a few questions blank.
Sure, we can complain but at the end of the day, the CAS as other actuarial organizations is an oligopoly. There’s no accountability and no remedial measures for bad decisions. They can do whatever they want, whenever they want at any cost to the students.
Remember: they don’t care about you or your family. They only care about themselves which is why they didn’t postpone the exam window.
Not that I did MAS but the real question is, why did it take 9 weeks to release MAS results given that they’re not being released with 5-9? If it’s multiple choice then shouldn’t the TBE dynamic have sold up the grading rather than slow it down? So many unanswered questions. Frustrating time to be a student.
